A \u201cperson of interest\u201d in the Brown University mass shooting is in custody following an 11-hour manhunt \u2014 as witnesses revealed he shouted something before opening fire. <\/p>\n
Two students were killed and nine others wounded in the attack on a final exam study session.<\/p>\n
Witnesses said that the gunman shouted something, but revealed they were not sure exactly what. Detectives are still trying to figure out what the gunman said, authorities revealed.<\/p>\n
It was also revealed that the gunman had a firearm with unique characteristics that helped cops tie him to the deadly shooting, according to\u00a0NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, authorities would not comment on whether the gunman was connected to the elite school in Providence, Rhode Island.\u00a0<\/p>\n This video grab from a CCTV footage released by the Providence Police Department shows the suspect in the Brown University shooting. Providence Police Department\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n A shelter in place order was lifted on the Ivy League school campus, and all final exams have been cancelled.<\/p>\n One of the injured victims remains in critical condition, seven are in a stable condition and one has been discharged from the hospital, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley told reporters Sunday morning.<\/p>\n The person of interest was taken into custody following heavy police activity at a Coventry, RI, hotel at around 3:45 a.m. that law enforcement officials said was \u201cconnected\u201d to Saturday\u2019s deadly shooting.<\/p>\n Investigators are not currently searching for anyone else in connection with the shooting, Providence Police Dept. Chief Col. Oscar Perez told the press conference.<\/p>\n Few other details have been given on the person taken into custody and it isn\u2019t clear if he was affiliated with the university.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s the latest on the mass shooting at Brown University<\/p>\n A heavy police presence remains in place as of Sunday morning, with access to the university\u2019s Minden Hall and nearby apartment buildings still limited.\u201dThe people of Providence should breathe a little easier this morning,\u201d Mayor Smiley said.<\/p>\n The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. during a final exam review session at the private university.<\/p>\n According to officials in Providence, Rhode Island, one of the injured victims remains in critical condition, seven are in a stable condition and one has been discharged from the hospital. REUTERS<\/p>\n \u201cAll of a sudden, we heard gunshots and people screaming,\u201d said Joseph Oduro, the teaching assistant who hosted the review session<\/a>, to the\u00a0New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n Oduro was saying goodbye to his students a little after 4 p.m. when the gunman burst into the lecture hall in an engineering building on campus. Oduro hid with 20 others, including a wounded student, behind a desk.<\/p>\n He recalls hearing the gunman shout something incomprehensible.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s what the students and I \u2014 and the detectives \u2014 have been trying to piece together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. during a final exam review session.<\/p>\n Access to the university\u2019s Minden Hall and nearby apartment buildings is still limited.<\/p>\n Given the layout of the lecture hall, Oduro told the Times that students in the center section of seats would the most exposed to open fire.<\/p>\n \u201cThe students in the middle were impacted the most,\u201d he said. \u201cMany of them were lying there and they were not moving.
