It’s just a fact.

His swing is so effortless and smooth that it’s the envy of many, even on TOUR.

Still, over a decade ago, Couples was generous enough with his time for Golf Digest to explain just what he’s trying to feel for when hitting a golf ball.

“If I can try and make a couple of key points, I think for me….if I make a full shoulder turn, I think every good player or every good amateur wants to do that. But once I get the shoulder turn right I don’t think about the change in direction and once I start coming, my hips will come this way but my club does not follow my hips, therefore getting no power,” Couples explained.

“So get the club up here, and I release as it comes down. And when I say release, I don’t mean this way or you’re going to hit it a mile right but if you can learn to clear your hips and release the club down the line towards the ball, not back here, then there’s a point I think about when I make contact, I release the club.

“So what I call past the ball. So my point of release is right at the ball, not back here so when I get there, I pretty much go after it with everything I have.”

Why Tiger Woods mocked Fred Couples in 2024

Everyone on the PGA Tour knows that Fred Couples and Tiger Woods have a great relationship and over the years they’ve very much formed a brilliant friendship.

Indeed, Woods is never shy at missing a moment to mock his old friend and that was on display in 2024 as Woods looked at Couples’ new set up.

In the clip shared by the PGA Tour, Woods is seen mocking Couples for having six woods in his bag.

Of course, Couples will care little. At 65 he’s still more than capable of competing and if that means using a few more clubs for more distance, so be it.

[47
34672,1430,62,67,132,68
0":"post-44772","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-golf","8":"tag-fred-couples","9":"tag-golf","10":"tag-sports","11":"tag-united-states","12":"tag-unitedstates","13":"tag-us
["GET
