{"id":44856,"date":"2025-07-07T02:22:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T02:22:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/44856\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T02:22:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T02:22:14","slug":"2-dallas-girls-killed-in-flooding-at-camp-mystic-families-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/44856\/","title":{"rendered":"2 Dallas girls killed in flooding at Camp Mystic, families say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two North Texas girls missing from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/north-texans-remember-camp-mystic-as-volunteers-prepare-for-disaster-relief\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Camp Mystic<\/a>\u00a0in the wake of catastrophic Central Texas flooding have been confirmed dead: Lila Bonner, 9, and Eloise Peck, 8, CBS News Texas confirmed Sunday. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A sign posted outside the home of 8-year-old Eloise Peck stated that &#8220;she lost her life in the tragic flooding.&#8221; The family asked for privacy to mourn.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bonner&#8217;s family confirmed on Saturday that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/north-texas-girl-9-confirmed-dead-camp-mystic-flood-central-texas\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">she was among the children who had died in the flood<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bonner and Peck were two of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/central-texas-flood-search-missing-camp-mystic-girls\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three girls from Dallas<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the other being 8-year-old Hadley Hanna \u2014 who were among a group of missing Camp Mystic campers, unaccounted for following the flash floods that swept through Kerr County early Friday.  <\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/two.png#.png\" alt=\"two.png \" height=\"545\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Eloise Peck (left) and Lila Bonner, 9, both of Dallas (right), have been confirmed dead after being reported missing from Camp Mystic following the Central Texas flash floods.<\/p>\n<p>During a news conference on Sunday, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/texas-hill-country-severe-floods\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">at least 10 Camp Mystic campers were still missing<\/a>, along with one counselor. It was the first solid number officials have provided regarding campers who remain unaccounted for, after estimating Saturday that it could be as high as 27. There were about 750 children at Camp Mystic when the floods hit, the sheriff said earlier.  <\/p>\n<p>Hadley Hanna is among those still missing.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1751854934_34_hadley-hanna.png#.png\" alt=\"hadley-hanna.png \" height=\"418\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Dallas sisters among the dozens killed in Central Texas flooding<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/central-texas-flooding-dallas-sisters-among-43-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Two sisters from Dallas<\/a> &#8211; 13-year-old Blair Harber and 11-year-old Brooke Harber &#8211; were among the dozens of lives lost in the catastrophic floods that swept through Central Texas early Friday. <\/p>\n<p>Their deaths were confirmed Saturday by St. Rita Catholic Community. Blair was preparing to enter eighth grade, and Brooke was set to begin sixth grade at St. Rita Catholic School. <\/p>\n<p>The sisters were not attending Camp Mystic, but were in the area when the flooding occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens dead, many still missing<\/p>\n<p>As of Sunday afternoon, at least 79 have died and at least 41 more are missing, according to officials, following the devastating flash floods that slammed the Texas Hill Country. Rescue operations remain ongoing across the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Authorities caution that not all of the campers are confirmed missing \u2014 some may be unreachable due to storm-related communication outages \u2014 but the uncertainty has left families anxiously awaiting updates.<\/p>\n<p>According to the camp&#8217;s website, children become eligible to attend Camp Mystic, located in Hunt, Texas, along the Guadalupe River, after completing the second grade.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My instruction to every state agency involved in this is to assume everybody who is missing is alive,&#8221; Abbott said during a news conference on Saturday. &#8220;And there is a need for speed &#8211; not just every hour. Every minute counts, which is why there&#8217;s people in the air, people in the water, people on the ground right now because they are looking to save every last life. And we will not give up that effort.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump signs federal disaster declaration for Kerr County<\/p>\n<p>President Trump signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County on Sunday morning, at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott&#8217;s request. On Saturday, Abbott said he visited the summer camp for the first time, calling the scene &#8220;horrendously ravaged&#8221; in a social media post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Abbott encouraged all Texans to pause in reflection and prayer Sunday, and to also &#8220;seek God&#8217;s wisdom, peace, and mercy in this time of need for so many Texas families.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Large-scale response underway<\/p>\n<p>In response, authorities have launched a large-scale search effort, deploying helicopters, Texas game wardens, and specialized rescue teams. Several children have already been rescued from trees and other stranded locations.<\/p>\n<p>Rescuers scoured flooded riverbanks littered with mangled trees Saturday and turned over rocks in the search for more than two dozen children from a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/history-of-camp-mystic-summer-camp-hit-by-deadly-central-texas-floods\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">girls&#8217; camp<\/a>\u00a0and many others missing after a wall of water blasted down a river in the Texas Hill Country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Col.
