That\u2019s one of the top things you hear from New Yorkers,\u201d Adams recalled on CNBC, apparently referring to his Dec. 2 sit-down with Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor-elect, just days later, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/05\/us-news\/mamdanis-plan-to-stop-homeless-encampment-sweeps-could-batter-real-estate-market-industry-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publicly vowed that he\u2019d put an end <\/a>to the homeless encampment sweeps launched by the Adams administration in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Eric Adams said he warned Zohran Mamdani to keep the city\u2019s homeless problem \u201cunder control.\u201d  CNBC Television<\/p>\n<p>Adams and other critics have slammed Mamdani\u2019s plan, arguing its inhumane to let homeless people camp out on the streets and raising concerns about the makeshift shelters causing quality of life issues for New Yorkers and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went and visited those camps \u2014 stale food, human waste, drug paraphernalia, schizophrenic behavior,\u201d Hizzoner told the hosts of the business news show \u201cSquawk Box.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so we need to understand that not only is it a humanitarian issue, but also as a business, you don\u2019t want to walk out of your business, someone is sleeping in a tent,\u201d he said of the city\u2019s estimated 180 active encampments.<\/p>\n<p>New York City has an estimated 180 active homeless encampments on the streets. Downs for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Adams said that he\u2019s spoken with Mamdani \u201cseveral times\u201d since he was elected Nov. 4, through text message and during their Gracie Mansion meeting, about issues facing the city \u2013 underscoring homelessness as one of the most dire. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asked what his \u201ctakeaway\u201d was given Mamdani\u2019s public comments about street homelessness, Adams called out the Democratic Socialists of America, of which the incoming mayor is a member.<\/p>\n<p>DSA-backed Mamdani has vowed to put an end to homeless encampment sweeps by the NYPD. They should read their agenda,\u201d Adams said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey don\u2019t believe there should be any prisons in our city.
