{"id":449431,"date":"2025-12-15T21:01:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T21:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/449431\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T21:01:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T21:01:13","slug":"americas-got-talent-judge-opens-up-about-ocd-diagnosis-im-in-this-nightmare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/449431\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018America\u2019s Got Talent\u2019 judge opens up about OCD diagnosis: \u2018I\u2019m in this nightmare\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"R4GS4ASETBF3HJSWW3PSOLOXO4\">During a recent interview, \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d judge Howie Mandel has opened up about his diagnosis with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CL7YTDRGINHORAT3XRWGWDCOXE\">\u201cI don\u2019t remember not experiencing OCD,\u201d Mandel told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2025\/12\/15\/agt-howie-mandel-talks-ocd-ai-therapy\/87706879007\/#:~:text=\u201cI%20don&#039;t%20remember%20not,for%2010%20or%20more%20years.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/health-wellness\/2025\/12\/15\/agt-howie-mandel-talks-ocd-ai-therapy\/87706879007\/#:~:text=\u201cI%20don&#039;t%20remember%20not,for%2010%20or%20more%20years.\">USA TODAY<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FZQ2A6IB2NGP7DBJG2LISBFKAI\">OCD is often a long-lasting disorder where people have uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) causing them to feel the need to repeat over and over, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/statistics\/obsessive-compulsive-disorder-ocd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/statistics\/obsessive-compulsive-disorder-ocd\">National Institute of Mental Health<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JUOPXPP3DBGU3IEMUDUUC2NOKM\">Approximately one out of 40 people (180 million) worldwide are affected by OCD, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.regence.com\/blog\/ocd-experts-get-candid-about-overcoming-an-invisible-battle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/news.regence.com\/blog\/ocd-experts-get-candid-about-overcoming-an-invisible-battle\">Regence reports<\/a>. On average, it can take roughly 13 years for medical experts to diagnose someone with OCD, which is considered \u201chighly treatable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LY2PWCNUPBEKRJ2VCYJFM7TA6A\">Mandel told USA TODAY that the condition is deeply misunderstood and that his symptoms are debilitating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"L2Z6VW43OVBCZMJD2SVCEYB3N4\">\u201cI can\u2019t tell you how many people in the course of a week will come up to me and say, \u2018I have a little bit of that.\u2019 Well, you don\u2019t have a little bit of OCD,\u201d he told the media outlet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OJ4Y3O3B7NEPTEX4IV7LT5QT3I\">Mandel continued by saying that \u201cPeople interpret OCD as being persnickety or being really neat or fastidious, that is not OCD&#8230;. OCD is a nightmare if you are diagnosed with it\u2026 and a lot of people have it and are misdiagnosed.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"D2H6CBOTRNDOFBIVPQO24CBKQM\">Inspired by his owner journey, Mandel has partnered with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.treatmyocd.com\/know-ocd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.treatmyocd.com\/know-ocd\">NOCD<\/a>, a company that has been offering video-based OCD therapy since 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KEHZXCVRRFAT3E54XP2Z2YQXZU\">The AGT judge said he created the partnership after recognizing the need for accessible, reliable mental health care, especially with growing concerns around \u201cAI therapy,\u201d USA TODAY wrote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"C2KRGLA2AZH3LM33LTOOIX3MDM\">\u201cIf you really feel like you are suffering, AI isn\u2019t the answer,\u201d Mandel said. \u201cThat is not a tool for mental health, just like it\u2019s not a tool for physical health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ORDIIKSILFH27O4QHLEWM2MT2Q\">Instead, Mandel hopes that AI chatbots like ChatGPT will help refer users showing signs of OCD to resources like NOCD, where they can speak with real-life therapists with expert training in the condition and exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MBF7ZG3DMBBC5CHGWYV23436WI\">\u201cFor OCD, you have to go to someone who is an expert\u2026 not only an expert in therapy for it, but an expert for diagnosing it,\u201d he told USA TODAY. If someone happens upon his story, he hopes they will arrange an appointment to at least get diagnosed. From there, they can find the right treatment plan to manage their symptoms. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DJJEATUVYJE65PFHGGTCLDAXG4\">\u201cIt\u2019s a constant journey, and it\u2019s a constant battle that I, for the most part, am winning.
