New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing one of the world’s largest delivering companies, accusing it of cheating seasonal workers out of millions of dollars in pay.<\/p>\n
James said Monday that her office filed a lawsuit against United Parcel Service, better known as UPS, alleging the company systematically underpaid thousands of seasonal holiday workers across the state.<\/p>\n
James said an investigation by her office found that UPS failed to record all hours worked, required off-the-clock labor and manipulated timekeeping systems to reduce paid hours.<\/p>\n
She said those practices deprived workers of millions of dollars.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pretty much confident that other states will probably join in on this action,\u201d James said Monday.<\/p>\n
The attorney general is asking the court to order restitution for current and former seasonal workers and require UPS to change its timekeeping practices.<\/p>\n
UPS responded to the lawsuit, saying in a statement \u201cwe are aware of the lawsuit by the New York Attorney’s General Office. UPS takes all accusations of wrongdoing seriously and denies the unfounded allegation of intentionally underpaying UPS employees.
