{"id":449761,"date":"2025-12-16T00:22:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T00:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/449761\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T00:22:23","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T00:22:23","slug":"10-year-old-boy-burned-in-philadelphia-plane-crash-returns-home-its-a-miracle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/449761\/","title":{"rendered":"10-year-old boy burned in Philadelphia plane crash returns home: &#8220;It&#8217;s a miracle&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A story that&#8217;s touched hearts across the country came full circle Monday as classmates, teachers and neighbors helped welcome home\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/ramesses-vasquez-viana-philadelphia-plane-crash-burn-recovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Philadelphia plane-crash survivor 10-year-old Ramesses Vazquez-Viana<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After nearly a year of surgeries and rehabilitation, the Philadelphia community that stood by his side is now celebrating his return in a big way \u2014 with a few unforgettable surprises.<\/p>\n<p>His mother, Jamie Vazquez-Viana, was moved to tears after being surprised with a brand-new car donated by David Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Glen Mills, courtesy of dealership owner David Kelleher.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know \u2026 I was not expecting all of this,&#8221; she said, smiling through tears.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope this is a little bit of an inspiration,&#8221; Kelleher said. &#8220;I can give away a car once in a while because that&#8217;s where I&#8217;m at \u2014 but even if you have $10, give to a local food bank.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/18pkg-wb-ramesses-pep-rally-transfer-frame-20.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"18pkg-wb-ramesses-pep-rally-transfer-frame-20.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Jamie Vazquez-Viana, Ramesses&#8217; mother, was surprised with a brand-new car. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                CBS News Philadelphia<\/p>\n<p>The gift came together after CBS News correspondent David Begnaud shared Ramesses&#8217; story on Beg Knows America, bringing national attention to the family&#8217;s journey and the strength of their Philadelphia community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;First of all, it was your reporting I saw,&#8221; Begnaud said. &#8220;I travel this nation telling stories of everyday people doing extraordinary things \u2014 and to see what this young boy has done to beat the odds \u2026 it&#8217;s a miracle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/ramesses-northeast-philadelphia-plane-crash-victim-mastery-smedley\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ramesses&#8217; story began in January<\/a>, when the then-9-year-old survived a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/northeast-philadelphia-plane-crash-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia<\/a>, suffering burns on more than 90% of his body. He was airlifted to Boston, where he spent months at Shriners Hospital undergoing surgeries and rehabilitation before transferring to Weisman Children&#8217;s Rehabilitation Hospital in Marlton, New Jersey. Eleven months later, he&#8217;s walking, talking and proving that faith and perseverance can move mountains.<\/p>\n<p>At Smedley Elementary School, where teachers and students sent cards, prayers, and videos during his recovery, the community turned out in full force for a homecoming celebration. Eagles mascot Swoop led the pep rally, filling the gym with chants and cheers.<\/p>\n<p>Then came another surprise \u2014 a $50,000 check from Canva to support students and programs at Smedley.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been here for 16 years, and we&#8217;ve never had more of a need with our students and less of a budget,&#8221; the principal said. &#8220;It couldn&#8217;t have come at a better time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although Ramesses couldn&#8217;t be there in person, his best friends visited him ahead of the event \u2014 and, as his mom put it, &#8220;boys will be boys.&#8221; Inside his classroom, a stuffed bear named Fezzy still sits in his seat, waiting for the day he walks through those doors again.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/18pkg-wb-ramesses-pep-rally-transfer-frame-4756.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"18pkg-wb-ramesses-pep-rally-transfer-frame-4756.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Ramesses Vazquez-Viana and his friends before the event Monday celebrating his return home.<\/p>\n<p>                CBS News Philadelphia<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was praying so hard we&#8217;d be home for Christmas,&#8221; Jamie Vazquez-Viana  said. &#8220;I just wanted my three boys with me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ramesses will be released from Weisman Children&#8217;s Rehabilitation Hospital Tuesday.
