(Photo courtesy city of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>City crews will begin work on slurry seal street repairs and resurfacing in Skyline Hills, Paradise Hills, Otay Mesa, Encanto and Eastern San Diego this week, officials announced Monday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the city, slurry seal is used to prevent the deterioration of streets \u2014 vital to improving the overall condition of San Diego\u2019s roads. It reduces the need for a more costly asphalt overlay and reconstruction for badly deteriorated streets.<\/p>\n<p>Slurry seal is often completed in phases over several days or weeks. Multiple slurry seal projects are happening across the city simultaneously and are often coupled with other facility updates to increase safety and mobility for all modes of transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The latest work will be completed, weather permitting, in February.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the roads to be resurfaced include: Thorn Street, Dairy Mart Road, Saturn Boulevard, Fowler Drive, 50th and 60th streets, La Paz Drive, Latimer Street and dozens more.<\/p>\n<p>Streets are selected for resurfacing through a pavement management system that helps determine when to schedule streets and what treatment to use. Each street segment is assigned a Pavement Condition Index score based on the pavement\u2019s overall condition.<\/p>\n<p>Residents can view a map of past, current and future street repair in their neighborhood by visiting the city\u2019s interactive StreetsSD map at <a href=\"https:\/\/streets.sandiego.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">streets.sandiego.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>City News Service contributed to this article. <\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT\n\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"City crews work on slurry seal street repairs and resurfacing.
