\n\t\u201cWe were supposed to be seeing them that night \u2014 last night,\u201d Michelle Obama<\/a> said of Rob and Michele Reiner<\/a> on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight. The Reiners were\u00a0found slain from apparent knife wounds in their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon<\/a>. Late last night, the Reiners\u2019 32-year-old son Nick was arrested by the police as a suspect. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe former president posted Sunday evening that the Obamas were \u201cheartbroken\u201d by the news.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve known them for many, many years,\u201d the former first lady told Jimmy Kimmel this evening, shaking her head at the thought of the tragedy.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former first lady then went on to address the current president\u2019s bizarre statements<\/a> about Rob Reiner<\/a> after the filmmaker\u2019s death; Trump called him \u201cderanged\u201d and \u201ctortured and struggling.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLet me just say this: Unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know,\u201d Obama told Kimmel. \u201cThey are not deranged or crazed. What they have always been are passionate people who \u2014 in a time when there\u2019s not a lot of courage going on \u2014 they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family. And they cared about this country. And they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth. I DO know them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their Higher Ground<\/a> production company began with an exclusive deal at Netflix that harvested the Oscar winner\u00a0American Factory, Crip Camp, Leave the World Behind\u00a0and the Kevin Hart-starrer\u00a0Fatherhood. Higher Ground also produced the Netflix series\u00a0The Later Daters. <\/p>\n

\n\tThey signed an extension of their creative partnership with Netflix in 2024, but the deal is now a non-exclusive first look.<\/p>\n

Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.<\/p>\n
