Phoenix Group CEO Andy Briggs reflects on how his family values shaped his four-decade career, why purpose-driven leadership matters when making tough decisions and how staying true to yourself is key to building long-term success.<\/p>\n

Andy Briggs has spent\u00a0nearly four\u00a0decades in financial services\u2014culminating in his role as CEO of Phoenix Group<\/a>, the U.K.’s largest long-term savings and retirement business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It’s\u00a0much easier to be yourself than be something\u00a0you’re\u00a0not.\u00a0You’re\u00a0better at it, but\u00a0also,\u00a0I think it\u00a0works well from a leadership perspective just to be authentic, normal, down to earth,” Briggs told CNBC’s Steve Sedgwick<\/a> on the “Executive Decisions”<\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n

While Briggs always knew he wanted to land in general management, his\u00a0career path\u00a0wasn’t\u00a0linear. After qualifying as an actuary, he embraced roles in sales and marketing to broaden his perspective. Along the way, he faced setbacks, including\u00a0missing out on\u00a0the top job at Aviva, which reinforced his commitment to purpose-driven leadership.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I’m\u00a0absolutely delighted this will be my last executive job here\u00a0here\u00a0at Phoenix.\u00a0It’s\u00a0perfect for me,” Briggs said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Today, Briggs champions a low-ego, inclusive culture at Phoenix Group, believing that collaboration beats\u00a0superstars.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We’re not a high-ego type company, and that goes right to the core of our values,” Briggs said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
