{"id":450769,"date":"2025-12-16T11:02:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T11:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/450769\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T11:02:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T11:02:14","slug":"scottsdale-police-respond-to-standoff-school-threat-bike-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/450769\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottsdale police respond to standoff, school threat, bike death |"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a busy few days, Scottsdale Police officers responded to a domestic violence suspect barricaded in his home, a student who allegedly sent a threatening message and a fatal bicycle accident.<\/p>\n<p>Late afternoon Dec. 8, bicyclist Devin Curran died after being hit by a car near Thompson Peak Parkway and Raintree Drive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driver of the vehicle remained at the scene,\u201d according to Officer Aaron Bolin. \u201cSpeed and impairment are not considered factors in the collision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No arrests have been made.<\/p>\n<p>The roadway was closed for several hours while detectives investigated the collision.<\/p>\n<p>Two days earlier, a boy was arrested for sending a threatening message to Coronado High School.<\/p>\n<p>Bolin described the incident as \u201ca one-sentence written threat was sent to Coronado High School\u2019s direct message social media account by a juvenile suspect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the investigation, it was determined that a single person was involved in making the written threat; it was not part of any planned or coordinated threat with others, and the suspect does not have the means to physically carry out the written threat,\u201d Bolin said.<\/p>\n<p>When the school opened after the weekend, Bolin said there was an increased police presence \u201cout of an abundance of caution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth the Scottsdale Police Department and the Scottsdale Unified School District take all threats to the schools very seriously,\u201d Bolin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case was thoroughly investigated by detectives and patrol officers, resulting in the arrest of the suspect and the subsequent criminal charges they will face through the court system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Dec. 7, officers arrested Andrew Shadid, 57, on \u201cseveral domestic violence-related charges,\u201d according to Bolin.<\/p>\n<p>Police were called to a south Scottsdale residence near 70th Street and McDowell Road after a woman reported Shadid had forced his way into her residence, assaulted her and threatened to ignite the home on fire with gasoline, according to Bolin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShadid told the victim he would kill her and himself if police showed up,\u201d Bolin said.<\/p>\n<p>An existing court order prohibited Shadid from being at the residence.<\/p>\n<p>The woman was able to safely escape from the residence before police arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Police attempted contact with Shadid in numerous ways to get him to exit the residence and peacefully surrender, Bolin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice created a perimeter around the house, and barricade procedures were initiated,\u201d Bolin said. \u201cNeighborhood roadways were blocked, and nearby homes were evacuated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police crisis negotiators \u201cattempted numerous times and used different methods to establish contact with Shadid and persuade him to peacefully surrender and leave the residence,\u201d Bolin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShadid never communicated back with Scottsdale Police and never indicated any attempt to surrender.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After nearly four hours, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers entered the home and eventually located Shadid in a bedroom. He told the SWAT team he was armed, Boliin said.
