{"id":451667,"date":"2025-12-16T20:47:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T20:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/451667\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T20:47:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T20:47:11","slug":"woman-scammed-out-of-36k-by-caller-who-instructed-her-to-deposit-funds-into-bitcoin-atm-bcso-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/451667\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman scammed out of $36K by caller who instructed her to deposit funds into Bitcoin ATM, BCSO says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>BEXAR COUNTY, Texas <\/strong> \u2013 The Bexar County Sheriff\u2019s Office is warning the public about a scam involving a person who posed as an attorney to steal from a victim. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Deputies responded to a home in the northeastern area of the county last Friday after a person said she received a phone call from a man who falsely claimed to be an attorney with a pretrial incarceration program, BCSO said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The caller told the person that her son had been involved in a car crash and was arrested for driving while intoxicated, according to a sheriff\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BexarCoSheriff\/posts\/pfbid035D157k23uittq8bWGVkVH1uYi9G7Nu5pB56sL5bXXLhtDWzKScbP62w9s9xtsDCtl?rdid=dfd21gKdV4i9CoWl#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Facebook post<\/a>. He also told her that the other driver was pregnant and a retired federal employee, and her son\u2019s bond was set at $180,000. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The woman complied with the scammer\u2019s demand to deposit $18,000 into a Bitcoin ATM kiosk in the 5500 block of Walzem to secure her son\u2019s release, BCSO said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The caller then contacted the victim again and falsely claimed that the pregnant driver had miscarried. The scammer demanded another $18,000, which the victim also deposited into the Bitcoin machine. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The scammer called again, demanding an additional $20,000 to have the case dismissed, according to BCSO.
