{"id":451788,"date":"2025-12-16T22:00:20","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T22:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/451788\/"},"modified":"2025-12-16T22:00:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T22:00:20","slug":"republican-mayors-association-to-play-role-in-2026-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/451788\/","title":{"rendered":"Republican Mayors Association to play role in 2026 elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2023\/09\/22\/dallas-mayor-eric-johnson-announces-he-is-switching-to-republican-party\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2023\/09\/22\/dallas-mayor-eric-johnson-announces-he-is-switching-to-republican-party\/\"> Republican Mayors Association<\/a>, a group he launched after he switched from being a Democrat, could help the GOP make gains in the 2026 midterms by attracting urban voters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cFor a long time, the Republican Party has basically conceded that Democrats are going to be dominant in our major cities and use them more as foils to talk about,\u201d Johnson said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jvOuQdSHhTk\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jvOuQdSHhTk\">CNBC interview<\/a> that aired Monday. \u201cBut what we\u2019re realizing now is that there are a lot of votes in these cities, and they actually impact the statewide races, and particularly swing states. No Democrat had held the position in decades.<\/li>\n<li><b>Los Angeles, California: <\/b>The largest U.S. city with mayoral elections next year. The race is nonpartisan, but Mayor Karen Bass, a progressive Democrat, won in 2022 by nearly 10 points over former Republican Rick Caruso.<\/li>\n<li><b>Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: <\/b>Republican Mayor David Holt is up for reelection in a nonpartisan race.<\/li>\n<li><b>Louisville, Kentucky: <\/b>Currently led by Democrat Craig Greenberg.
