The man who police say caused a crash that killed an Uber passenger and injured the driver<\/a> during a hit-and-run while fleeing from officials in Philadelphia turned himself into authorities after more than a day on the run. <\/p>\n

NBC10 crews captured the moments that Joseph Cini, 35, was surrounded by family as he walked into Philadelphia police headquarters in Philadelphia on Dec. 16.<\/p>\n

This all began on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, at 7:14 a.m. on the 900 block of North Watts Street when members of the Philadelphia Sheriff\u2019s Office attempted to serve a warrant against Cini for an alleged domestic assault.<\/p>\n

Cini then fled the scene in a Nissan Maxima, traveling eastbound on Girard Avenue from Watts Street, police said.<\/p>\n

As he drove away, Cini crashed into an Uber, a red Jeep Patriot, according to investigators. Cini then fled the scene on foot northbound on 8th\u00a0Street.<\/p>\n

A 63-year-old woman, identified by police as Angela Cooper, who was a passenger inside the Uber was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:24 a.m. The Uber driver, Pastor Stephen Thompson, was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was placed in stable condition.<\/p>\n

According to his wife, Jenelle Thompson, he has several broken ribs and a collapsed lung. <\/p>\n

“He\u2019s doing well. He\u2019s resting right now. He\u2019s still in a lot of pain. But he\u2019s alive,” Jenelle said. <\/p>\n

On Tuesday night, the members of the House of Triumph Outreach and Worship Center<\/a>, where Stephen is the pastor, handed out food to those in need in Kensington. <\/p>\n

“Ultimately this is God’s work. And I would get in trouble because he\u2019s my husband first but he\u2019s also my pastor. So, I would get in trouble by my pastor because he\u2019s like, ‘You still have able people to help you do the work. Just because I\u2019m down, doesn\u2019t mean God’s work is down,'” Jenelle said. <\/p>\n

It’s a mission they do every Tuesday night, but this time without Pastor Stephen. <\/p>\n
