Katz\u2019s Deli<\/a> shared a loving tribute<\/a> to director Rob Reiner, who filmed an iconic movie scene at the world-famous restaurant. The filmmaker was killed<\/a>, along with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, on December 14.<\/p>\n

Katz\u2019s Instagram post<\/a> called Reiner a \u201cquintessential New Yorker and creative giant who brought Katz\u2019s to millions of people by showing the magic of our store in his masterpiece.\u201d In the 1989 New York autumn rom-com film When Harry Met Sally\u2026, written by Nora Ephron, Harry (played by Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) are dining at Katz\u2019s when she audibly fakes an orgasm. This prompts a nearby diner (played by Reiner\u2019s mother) to tell her waiter, \u201cI\u2019ll have what she\u2019s having.\u201d The scene launched a thousand parodies<\/a>, recreations<\/a>, and even a commercial<\/a> reuniting the stars.<\/p>\n

The post is paired with a slideshow of a framed photograph of Reiner with Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan, and the then-owner of Katz\u2019s; another image of Reiner at the restaurant; and the deli sign pointing to the table \u201cWhere Harry Met Sally \u2026 hope you have what she had! Enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Katz\u2019s current owner, Jake Dell<\/a>, talked to Hollywood Reporter<\/a> about Reiner. \u201cHe was a regular customer who would come in whenever he was in town \u2014 a Brooklyn guy who would come and grab a sandwich,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
