Ole Miss<\/a><\/strong> is set to hire LSU<\/a><\/strong> interim head coach Frank Wilson<\/a><\/strong> to its staff, On3\u2019s Pete Nakos<\/a><\/strong> reported. The move will occur after the Tigers\u2019 bowl game.<\/p>\n

Wilson is set to be Ole Miss\u2019 running backs coach under new head coach Pete Golding<\/a><\/strong>. He took over as LSU\u2019s interim head coach after the firing of Brian Kelly<\/a><\/strong>, and his future was in question after the hiring of Lane Kiffin<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Wilson previously worked at Ole Miss from 2005-07 as running backs and special teams coach. He also has head coaching experience at UTSA<\/a><\/strong> and McNeese State<\/a><\/strong> before returning to LSU in 2022 as part of Kelly\u2019s initial staff. He previously worked with the Tiger from 2010-15.<\/p>\n

Late in the regular season, as LSU went through its coaching search before ultimately hiring Kiffin from Ole Miss, Wilson was asked about his future in Baton Rouge. He made his love for the program clear and expressed a desire to stay, should things work out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love LSU and as long as LSU will have me,\u201d Wilson said<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cI would love to be a part of what we are doing here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilson\u2019s return to Ole Miss is the latest storyline in the rivalry with LSU. He\u2019s a key hire for Golding as he takes over for Kiffin, who will make his return to Oxford quickly in 2026. The Rebels and Tigers will square off in Week 3 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium \u2013 what\u2019s sure to be one of the most anticipated games of the year.<\/p>\n

More on Frank Wilson\u2019s coaching career<\/p>\n

A New Orleans native, Frank Wilson played college football at Nicholls State<\/a><\/strong> and served a student assistant in 1996. He then coached at the charter school level at Edna Kerr<\/strong> and O.P. Walker<\/strong> in Louisiana before joining the Ole Miss staff in 2005. In 2008, he took over as the running backs coach at Southern Miss<\/a><\/strong> and worked alongside Lane Kiffin in 2009 as the wide receivers coach at Tennessee<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From 2010-15, Wilson served as LSU\u2019s assistant head coach and running backs coach, as well as recruiting coordinator, until UTSA came calling. As a whole, between UTSA and McNeese, he had a 26-40 overall record as a head coach.<\/p>\n
