It’s harmful for them. Please don’t abuse them.”

Another stated, “It makes me happy to see so many people agreeing with how wrong and cruel this sounds. I hope city officials and council see the concerns, all correct and valid, and that the decision to bring elephants to a firework show is reconsidered. Riding elephants is not a way to educate about this amazing species.”

Many other commenters were concerned the elephants may be scared by the fireworks and potentially hurt either themselves or people at the event.

On Saturday, the City of Glenpool updated their original Facebook post and said the elephant rides have been cancelled due to the public’s concern.

“We are going to cancel the planned elephant rides at the Red, White and Boom Bash. We heard you, Glenpool, and we’re taking appropriate action. We will be considering what we can do to make amends and let you know any further actions that come out of this decision.”

The Red, White and Boom Bash is still scheduled for June 28 from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

GLENPOOL, Okla. — The City of Glenpool has canceled the elephant rides announced for their Red, White & Boom…

[27
5858,5863,5860,5212,5853,5862,5857,5854,5859,5861,5864,5865,5852,5855,159,67,132,68,5856,837
0":"post-4537","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-wildlife","8":"tag-animal-abuse","9":"tag-apology","10":"tag-asian-elephants","11":"tag-backlash","12":"tag-city-of-glenpool","13":"tag-comments","14":"tag-elephant-rides","15":"tag-elephants","16":"tag-endangered-ark-foundation","17":"tag-facebook-comments","18":"tag-fireworks","19":"tag-fireworks-show","20":"tag-glenpool","21":"tag-red","22":"tag-science","23":"tag-united-states","24":"tag-unitedstates","25":"tag-us","26":"tag-white-and-boom-bash","27":"tag-wildlife
["GET
