{"id":454186,"date":"2025-12-17T22:16:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T22:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/454186\/"},"modified":"2025-12-17T22:16:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T22:16:12","slug":"22000-boulder-county-customers-without-power-amid-planned-shutoff-90-mph-wind-gusts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/454186\/","title":{"rendered":"22,000 Boulder County customers without power amid planned shutoff, 90 mph wind gusts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 22,000 power customers are without power following high winds and an Xcel Energy planned power shutoff.<\/p>\n<p>Boulder County is under a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailycamera.com\/2025\/12\/17\/wildfire-danger-boulder-county-weather\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">red flag warning and a high wind warning<\/a> on Wednesday, with wind gusts of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NWSBoulder\/status\/2001399484337529231?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">over 90 mph recorded in the county<\/a>. As of 2:24 p.m., the highest gust was estimated at 96 mph at the NCAR Mesa Lab southwest of Boulder, according to NWS.<\/p>\n<p>Xcel Energy said it would cut power in parts of Boulder, such as Flagstaff, University Hill and north Boulder, and in parts of Longmont and Superior, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/co.my.xcelenergy.com\/s\/outage-safety\/outage-map\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">energy company\u2019s map of affected areas<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>About 22,471 Xcel customers were without power as of about 2 p.m. across Boulder County, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outagemap-xcelenergy.com\/outagemap\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Xcel\u2019s own outage map<\/a>, including about 8,000 customers whose power was proactively shut off amid the fire danger.<\/p>\n<p>In Lyons, about 800 customers lost power following the high winds hitting the county, according to the town\u2019s energy co-op, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PoudreValleyREA\/status\/2001362851844464859\" rel=\"nofollow\">Poudre Valley REA<\/a>, in a social media post.\n<\/p>\n<p>Charging locations for personal devices and medical equipment are available at the Superior Community Center, Superior Civic Center, Nederland Community Center, Louisville Recreation &amp; Senior Center and Louisville Public Library around the county for those who have lost power.<\/p>\n<p>The charging locations could close if they lose power.<\/p>\n<p>Fire conditions are expected to make a resurgence on Friday, which might mean another planned outage, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/XcelEnergyCO\/status\/2001300188154208698\" rel=\"nofollow\">an Xcel social media post<\/a>. The second outage could be underway as soon as 6 a.m. Friday, the post states.\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The outages are meant to limit the risk of fires starting on Wednesday, according to Xcel.
