{"id":454760,"date":"2025-12-18T04:00:38","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T04:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/454760\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T04:00:38","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T04:00:38","slug":"septas-largest-workers-union-votes-to-ratify-new-contract-nbc10-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/454760\/","title":{"rendered":"SEPTA\u2019s largest workers union votes to ratify new contract \u2013 NBC10 Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A majority of members of SEPTA&#8217;s largest workers union voted &#8220;yes&#8221; to ratify <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/septa-and-workers-union-reach-tentative-two-year-deal-avoiding-strike\/4313383\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/septa-and-workers-union-reach-tentative-two-year-deal-avoiding-strike\/4313383\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">their new contract with the transit agency<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Transport Workers Union Local 234, which represents about 5,000 SEPTA employees, had been working without a contract since Nov. 7, 2025, when its last contract expired. <\/p>\n<p>The union then threatened on Friday, Dec. 5, that a strike was &#8220;imminent&#8221; unless a deal was reached.<\/p>\n<p>But, on Monday, Dec. 8, SEPTA confirmed with NBC10 that both sides reached a tentative two-year deal following discussions that had been mediated by Gov. Josh Shapiro. <\/p>\n<p>Out of the 1,867 members of TWU who voted, 1,794 voted &#8220;yes&#8221; on the new contract meaning that it passed with 96% approval, according to the union. <\/p>\n<p>This new contract lasts two years and includes wage increases as well as a temporary pension enhancement for TWU members who retire during the term of the contract.
