{"id":455275,"date":"2025-12-18T09:53:30","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T09:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/455275\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T09:53:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T09:53:30","slug":"maximum-houston-taxi-fares-upped-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/455275\/","title":{"rendered":"Maximum Houston taxi fares upped 28%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTaxis in Houston can now charge up to 65-66 cents more per mile, depending on the time of day, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstontx.gov\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston City Council<\/a> opted to approve the new maximum rates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstontx.gov\/htv\/HTVLIVE.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dec. 17<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The big picture<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vehicles for hire operating in Houston can charge a maximum of <strong>$2.96 per mile<\/strong> during the day and a maximum of <strong>$2.97 at night<\/strong>\u2014after the first one-eleventh of a mile\u2014according to <a href=\"https:\/\/houstontx.primegov.com\/Portal\/Meeting?meetingTemplateId=515\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dec. 17 City Council regular meeting documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Vehicles for hire have the option to charge lower rates in order to compete with transportation networks such as Uber and Lyft, according to meeting documents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The catalyst<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Officials with the city\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstontx.gov\/ara\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Administration &amp; Regulatory Affairs Department<\/a> met with industry stakeholders earlier this year about raising the rate maximums due to increased operating costs for taxicabs.
