Pay the Players.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">The driver &#8212; provided by Laborers Local Union 1010, LIUNA &#8212; then spent much of the morning circling the store entrance, making sure to display a rear sign that read, \u201cPay equity is not optional. It is earned. It is deserved. It is overdue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">As word spread on social media, the NFLPA re-posted photos of the billboard on X with the message, A league\u2019s success should be shared with the players who create it&#8230;We continue to stand in solidarity with @TheWNBPA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">\u201cThat collaboration matters because fights for pay equity aren\u2019t confined to one league or one profession,\u201d said Kate Whalen, communications director at the NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. \u201cWhen workers, in this case, the WNBPA players, are undervalued anywhere, it\u2019s a Labor issue everywhere.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"NA\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WKKZDPORKVA7NG4O5HLS7PH74U.JPEG\"  width=\"800\" height=\"555\"\/>A truck outside the NBA Store in favor of the WNBA players. NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">As for the plea to pay the players, the WNBA\u2019s response has been they are already offering to do so. The W believes it has proposed a \u201cmassive\u201d salary increase &#8212; a $1M maximum pay base, for instance, plus revenue sharing that takes it over $1.2M &#8212; and agrees the players deserve the raise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">Still, the crux issue of WNBA collective bargaining sessions has in fact been the revenue sharing &#8212; with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/03\/sources-wnbpa-issues-counterproposal-asking-for-higher-split-of-league-and-team-revenue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/03\/sources-wnbpa-issues-counterproposal-asking-for-higher-split-of-league-and-team-revenue\/\">players asking for about 30% of league revenue<\/a>, and the WNBA offering roughly 15%. On Tuesday night, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said he\u2019d be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/16\/silver-willing-to-join-wnba-negotiations-remains-optimistic-for-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/16\/silver-willing-to-join-wnba-negotiations-remains-optimistic-for-deal\/\">willing to join<\/a> WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert at the negotiating table to expedite a deal. The current CBA has been extended 70 days since it was originally set to expire Oct. 31, and the new expiration date is now Jan. 9, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">\u201cFor so long, for so many CBAs, the players have taken deals because they want the league to succeed,\u201d said a source familiar with the player leadership. \u201cThey\u2019ve continued to take CBAs that that are below what they\u2019re worth to ensure that this league grows. But we\u2019re at a inflection point where you have billionaires fighting each other to pay a quarter of a billion dollars just for the right to own and operate a team. When you\u2019re at that point, it\u2019s time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">Back in late October, the WNBA issued its own statement, saying: \u201cAs the WNBA has stated repeatedly, we agree with the players that they deserve to be paid more and, importantly, to participate in the success and growth of the league by sharing in revenue.
