District 9 Councilwoman Misty Spears told the Current Wednesday that threats of violence against her and her staff won\u2019t deter them from representing their constituents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThreats against elected officials or any public servant are unacceptable and have no place in our city or our democracy,\u201d Spears told the Current. \u201cPolitical differences must never be expressed through intimidation or harm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spears comments come after San Antonio police on Monday arrested Bryan Naylor<\/a>, a staffer for District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez, on allegations he made a terroristic threat against Spears \u2014\u00a0a third-degree felony.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last week, Spears\u2019 staff reportedly found a note under a desk with a picture of Naylor, a former staffer for termed-out District 9 Councilman John Courage, that included the message \u201cDie Fascist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spears is one just two Republican members of City Council while Courage is a Democrat. Although San Antonio city elections are nonpartisan, many voters are aware of the party affiliation of council members. <\/p>\n

Naylor also reportedly told police that he left lifelike replicas of rats, snakes and cockroaches around the District 9 office for Spears\u2019 staff to find.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meza Gonzalez has since confirmed that Naylor is no longer employed in her office.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am greatful to the District 8 office for their swift action, professionalism and support during this time,\u201d Spears said. \u201cTheir immediate response helped ensure that the appropriate steps were traken and reflects a shared commitment to safety and accountability across city government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Naylor faces up to 10 years in state prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
