Paddle boarding is great, we did it on Lake Austin actually \u2013 on the weekdays in Lake Austin when there&#8217;s no boats out there it&#8217;s a great exercise, great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a34037742\/best-core-exercises\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a34037742\/best-core-exercises\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"core exercise\" data-node-id=\"12.9\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">core exercise<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"14\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8216;We get a lot of good mountain biking weather, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a44116648\/swim-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a44116648\/swim-workout\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"swimming\" data-node-id=\"14.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">swimming<\/a>. But very rarely the gym. There are a lot of ways to be active outdoors. It&#8217;s more fun that way.&#8217;<br data-node-id=\"14.3\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Not Your Typical Weights Sessions<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"18\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">When he is forced into the gym to achieve a specific aesthetic for a role, even then McConaughey&#8217;s training is far from conventional. A key exercise Park describes is simply holding a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a755117\/the-10-best-dumbbell-exercises\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a755117\/the-10-best-dumbbell-exercises\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"dumbbell\" data-node-id=\"18.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">dumbbell<\/a> for 15 minutes. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"20\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8216;It\u2019s not as simple as it seems,&#8217; Park told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therichest.com\/lifestyles\/matthew-mcconaughey-workout-without-gym\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.therichest.com\/lifestyles\/matthew-mcconaughey-workout-without-gym\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"The Richest\" data-node-id=\"20.1.0\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">The Richest<\/a>. &#8216;You shift the weight from high above your head, in your right arm, then your left, then rest it on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/g754592\/7-best-exercises-for-bigger-shoulders-fast\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/g754592\/7-best-exercises-for-bigger-shoulders-fast\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"shoulders\" data-node-id=\"20.3\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">shoulders<\/a>, adding more weight to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a759269\/10-best-back-exercises-for-building-muscle\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a759269\/10-best-back-exercises-for-building-muscle\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"back\" data-node-id=\"20.5\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">back<\/a>, then your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/a29208586\/best-leg-exercises\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/a29208586\/best-leg-exercises\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"legs\" data-node-id=\"20.7\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">legs<\/a>.&#8217; This provides a functional, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a28433729\/full-body-workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a28433729\/full-body-workouts\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"full-body workout\" data-node-id=\"20.9\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">full-body workout<\/a> that exposes weak spots in your body.  <\/p>\n<p>Bursts of Activity <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"23\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Like so many of us, McConaughey often struggles to find time for prolonged workouts. But his busy schedule doesn&#8217;t stop him from compensating with bursts of activity throughout the day, no matter how short or seemingly simple. It&#8217;s this consistency that compounds over the course of a day, ensuring he stays in shape.  <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"25\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8216;I\u2019ll drop and give myself 20 push-ups at intervals throughout the day: 9am, bang out 20; sitting in a boring meeting at 10:30: bang out 20. I do that 10 times throughout the day, I\u2019ve done 200,&#8217; he says. &#8216;Or even mix it up with crunches, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a755607\/how-to-master-the-squat\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a755607\/how-to-master-the-squat\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"squats\" data-node-id=\"25.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">squats<\/a>, whatever. Also, I have a 12-pound medicine ball. I\u2019ll just think, pick up the medicine ball and don\u2019t put it down for 30 minutes. Try that once. You will have a workout, man.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The Best Kind of Cardio<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"28\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Above all else, McConaughey\u2019s favourite form of exercise is dancing. \u2018I could and should probably do it more often,\u2019 he\u2019s said. \u2018It\u2019s my favourite  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/g35977495\/cardio-exercises\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/g35977495\/cardio-exercises\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"cardio\" data-node-id=\"28.1\" class=\"body-link css-1d8p8n5 emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">cardio<\/a>.\u2019 He\u2019s even admitted he doesn\u2019t mind pairing some workouts with a cocktail, leaning into movement as something to enjoy rather than endure.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"30\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">As for boosting confidence in how you look, McConaughey has a characteristically candid suggestion.
