They are the first children to die of a respiratory illness during the current respiratory virus season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a reminder about how serious these viruses can be, but it&#8217;s not too late to protect yourself and your family by getting vaccinated,&#8221;\u00a0DHS Respiratory Disease Epidemiologist Tom Haupt said. &#8220;Respiratory vaccines are safe, effective, and the best tool we have to prevent doctor visits, hospitalization, and death for Wisconsinites.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You can schedule a vaccine through your primary care provider, local health department, pharmacy or community clinic. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.wisconsin.gov\/immunization\/vfc-parent.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vaccines for Children program<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.wisconsin.gov\/immunization\/vfa.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vaccines for Adults program<\/a>\u00a0have also been set up to help those without insurance cover the costs of vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also important to take steps to stop the spread of germs during the times of year when respiratory viruses are more prevalent. The DHS recommends Wisconsinites:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid touching their nose, eyes, and mouth.<\/li>\n<li>Stay home and away from others if feeling sick.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid being around others who are sick or have flu symptoms.<\/li>\n<li>Cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and encourage children to do the same.<\/li>\n<li>Wear a high-quality mask around others to prevent the spread of respiratory illness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u200bCOPYRIGHT 2025 BY CHANNEL 3000.
