Dallas-based hydrogen technology company DirectH2\u2014a startup backed by HL Energy Ventures, the Hunt Energy spinout\u2014has set its sights on expansion in India.<\/strong><\/p>\n

DirectH2 is developing what it calls \u201cgame changing\u201d modular direct solar-to-green hydrogen technology. The company holds exclusive rights to Rice University\u2019s IP for modular hydrogen production, and aims to reshape clean energy in the U.S. and beyond with the solution.<\/p>\n

It now plans to do that in India after signing a letter of intent with Shree Tuljabhavani Sugar Private Limited (STSPL) for India business development and early funding to enable \u201clowest cost, high-efficiency hydrogen production at the point of use.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move comes nine months after DirectH2 closed its seed round funding<\/a> from HL Energy Ventures, marking \u201ca significant milestone\u201d in the company\u2019s mission to revolutionize modular hydrogen production.<\/p>\n

New CEO lauds partnership with India\u2019s STSPL<\/p>\n

Vivek V. Dhas\u2014a native of Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, India, who previously helped found Hunt Perovskite Technologies\u2014is DirectH2\u2019s new CEO, stepping into the post previously held on an interim basis by DirectH2 Co-Founder Michael Irwin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re pleased to partner with STSPL in bringing our revolutionary technology to the India market,\u201d Dhas said in a statement. \u201cThis LOI for early business development and early-stage funding substantiates our mission and will accelerate delivering scalable, efficient, lowest cost Solar PV-Based, modular hydrogen production at the point of use.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dhas said STSPL will be \u201can important collaborator\u201d for DirectH2\u2019s mission to be part of India\u2019s National Green Hydrogen Mission and commercial development.<\/p>\n

Bringing the tech \u2018to commercial reality\u2019<\/p>\n

Dr. Aditya Mohite\u2014chief scientific officer at DirectH2 and inventor of the company\u2019s PV-integrated electrolysis technology at Rice University in Houston\u2014called the business development agreement between DirectH2 and STSP \u201cmost encouraging, as we all work to bring this exciting and needed technology to commercial reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBy integrating and innovating the Solar PV and Electrolyzer technologies into one panel,\u201d he added in a statement, \u201cDirect H2 does not require high cost electricity, nor high-cost electricity delivery infrastructure like in conventional approaches.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, he said, it can produce lower-cost green hydrogen at the point of need and use.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis de-centralizing approach will open up market applications from fueling fleets to data centers to industrial applications,\u201d Mohite added.<\/p>\n

More on STSPL\u2019s role<\/p>\n

STSPL is an agricultural company based in Maharashtra, India. It has had a strong business presence in sugar production, ethanol distillery, power generation, compressed biogas, and biomass since 2001.<\/p>\n

STSPL plans to provide land for the future expansion of DirectH2\u2019s operation in India, as well as being an offtaker of the green hydrogen, and an early investor of Direct H2, said Bhavna Bordikar, founder and chairman of STSPL.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis collaboration between DirectH2 and STSPL will strongly support India\u2019s National Green Hydrogen Mission,\u201d Bordikar added in a statement.<\/p>\n
