San Diego native Tony Hawk, the world’s most famous skateboarder, has brought the sport to places its never been.<\/p>\n
This weekend only, Hawk will be taking skating somewhere most people didn’t think was possible \u2014 ballet.<\/p>\n
The skateboarding legend will make a guest appearance in the Golden State Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” during their show on Saturday at the San Diego Civic Theater in downtown.<\/p>\n
The Golden State Ballet is in the midst of their annual holiday presentation of “The Nutcracker” from Dec. 12 through Dec. 21. He will only be in the production’s Saturday show at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
According to the ballet company, the collaboration came about through an unlikely connection: Golden State Ballet sent what they describe as a \u2018somewhat zany\u2019 invitation, and Hawk\u2019s daughter \u2014 who is passionate about musical theater \u2014 encouraged him to say \u201cyes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Golden State Ballet Artistic Director Ra\u00fal Salamanca said, “Tony\u2019s participation celebrates what makes San Diego special \u2013 a community where a skateboarding legend and a ballet company can come together to create something memorable. We\u2019re thrilled to welcome him to our stage!\u201d<\/p>\n
The ballet hopes Hawks one-night-only performance will help sell tickets, while also generating awareness and money for the region’s premiere ballet company.<\/p>\n
