(ACME)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1946:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-pope-hails-new-us-sain\/175882675\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini<\/a> was canonized by Pope Pius XII as the first American saint.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"sHiwBTHiLy\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2024\/03\/19\/column-cabrini-catholic-nun-saint-movie-crosby\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Column: \u2018Cabrini\u2019 so much more than a movie about a Catholic nun<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/1992\/11\/16\/saint-be-praised\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Italian-American nun<\/a> founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She opened 67 orphanages, schools, hospitals and missionary orders in nine countries before her death in 1917 in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Dwight D. (Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1952:<\/strong> Delegates gathered at the International Amphitheatre for the Republican National Convention. <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-unite-to-win-ike-and-ni\/175882911\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dwight D. (Bonnie Trafelet\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The Bulls wooed free agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2000\/07\/08\/bulls-welcome-free-agent-tracy-mcgrady-to-chicago-with-coach-tim-floyd-gm-jerry-krause-the-luvabulls-and-a-small-band\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tracy McGrady<\/a> upon his arrival at O\u2019Hare International Airport with team mascot Benny the Bull, the Luvabulls cheerleaders, a small band playing \u201cSweet Home, Chicago\u201d and a media horde.
