{"id":457166,"date":"2025-12-19T06:14:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T06:14:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/457166\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T06:14:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T06:14:22","slug":"paxtons-agree-to-unseal-records-in-divorce-case-after-media-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/457166\/","title":{"rendered":"Paxtons agree to unseal records in divorce case after media challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Texas Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/tags\/ken-paxton\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ken Paxton<\/a> and his wife, Angela, have agreed to unseal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2025-07-10\/state-sen-angela-paxton-files-for-divorce-from-texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">their divorce<\/a> case after a group of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2025-09-17\/texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton-divorce-unseal\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media organizations requested<\/a> the records be made public.<\/p>\n<p>According to an order signed by the Paxtons\u2019 lawyers, the couple has agreed that the court can \u201crestore full public access to the case file.\u201d The judge presiding over the case must sign off on the order for it to become official. A hearing is scheduled for Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>State Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2025-07-10\/state-sen-angela-paxton-files-for-divorce-from-texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Angela Paxton filed for divorce<\/a> in July alleging adultery. Soon after, she asked for the court record to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2025-07-16\/ken-paxton-divorce-seal-judge-texas-attorney-general\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sealed<\/a>. A previous judge handling the case <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2025-07-16\/ken-paxton-divorce-seal-judge-texas-attorney-general\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed<\/a> and put all of the records under seal. Ken Paxton supported the decision, saying the press was attempting to unfairly invade his personal life.<\/p>\n<p>Eight media organizations, including The Texas Newsroom, and nonpartisan nonprofit the Campaign for Accountability, filed requests to unseal the records. The media group argued Paxton\u2019s divorce records should be public because he is an elected official running for office who has faced repeated allegations of corruption. <\/p>\n<p>The attorney general\u2019s finances, which are a subject of the divorce case, have been central to the misconduct allegations against him.
