As the dollar gets tighter, we\u2019re all looking for inexpensive things to do and places to visit. One local option was recently named the best free attraction in Texas.<\/p>\n

Fort Worth\u2019s Kimbell Art Museum<\/a> took the top spot in the state in an analysis from CashNetUSA, an online lender. The company looked at publicly available five-star Tripadvisor ratings for more than 6,000 free attractions across the country. The Kimbell was No. 1 in Texas, with an average rating of 4.77.<\/p>\n

The museum was designed by architect Louis I. Kahn<\/a> and opened in 1972. Dallas Morning News architecture critic Mark Lamster has called it \u201carguably the greatest modern building in the United States, and certainly in Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s free to visit the Kimbell\u2019s permanent collection, which includes works from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the mid-20th century. There are also special exhibitions in the Renzo Piano Pavilion<\/a>, an addition to the museum that debuted in 2013. Tickets<\/a> start at $14. <\/p>\n

The current special exhibition is of a trove of Roman sculptures that \u201coffers a dazzling glimpse of the Roman world and a compelling history of collecting itself,\u201d art historian Sarah Kozlowski wrote in a review for The News<\/a>.<\/p>\n
