{"id":457894,"date":"2025-12-19T14:08:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T14:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/457894\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T14:08:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T14:08:11","slug":"rare-mandarin-duck-spotted-in-north-shore-killed-by-hunter-animal-advocates-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/457894\/","title":{"rendered":"Rare Mandarin duck spotted in North Shore killed by hunter, animal advocates say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Animal advocates say a hunter killed a rare Mandarin duck that had many flocking to the North Shore to catch a glance.<\/p>\n<p>The duck wasn&#8217;t native to Long Island, so many people came to Stony Brook to see it.<\/p>\n<p>Humane Long Island said it had hoped to rescue the duck, which it says had been abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very disheartening because there was a whole group of people ready, spending their days, spending their nights out here trying to save this duck&#8217;s life,&#8221; said John Di Leonardo, executive director of Humane Long Island.<\/p>\n<p>The state Department of Environmental Conservation told News 12 in a statement, &#8220;There is currently no evidence indicating illegal hunting in this matter.
