{"id":459260,"date":"2025-12-20T04:20:37","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T04:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/459260\/"},"modified":"2025-12-20T04:20:37","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T04:20:37","slug":"pre-teen-charged-with-attempted-murder-in-stabbing-of-boy-12-inside-nyc-playground-cops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/459260\/","title":{"rendered":"Pre-teen charged with attempted murder in stabbing of boy, 12, inside NYC playground: cops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The attacker<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/18\/us-news\/12-year-old-nyc-boy-stabbed-on-brooklyn-street-in-afternoon-burst-of-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> who stabbed a middle schooler <\/a>at a Brooklyn playground and left him in critical condition was just 12-years-old, police said, as they charged the youngster Friday with attempted murder as a juvenile.<\/p>\n<p>The pre-teen suspect allegedly knifed fellow 12-year-old Khayell Dupree in the chest inside Betsy Head Park in Brownsville as part of some kind of ongoing beef, the victim\u2019s heartbroken mom told The Post.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom what I know, allegedly, he had an issue with one of the kids that were involved [in] the neighborhood,\u201d Khayell\u2019s mom, Karerja Rerd, 36, told The Post outside the family\u2019s building just blocks from the scene. \u201cI don\u2019t know how it started. I don\u2019t know how we got to that point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The suspect who attacked the boy on a Brooklyn playground was just 12 years old himself. Gabriella Bass for the NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Khayell \u2013 who was listed in critical but stable condition \u2013 was ultimately moved to a Queens hospital that specializes in pediatric cardiovascular care, his mom said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo [the] knife punctured his left lung and his heart, they had to cut from his collarbone so above his stomach, to close his heart, and then he started with all the fluid in his lungs,\u201d Rerd said. \u201cSo my baby is hooked up to tools all throughout his body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I still talk to him, I still touch him, I still kiss him\u2026 just gently and on his hand.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His alleged attacker was arrested at the scene, and a knife was recovered, police said.\u00a0It was unclear if the suspect also went to the nearby Mott Hall Bridges Academy with the victim.<\/p>\n<p>Dupree was stabbed inside Betsy Head Park, two blocks from his home, on December 18, 2025. James Messerschmidt<\/p>\n<p>He now faces the serious felony rap and will be charged as a juvenile with his <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/18\/us-news\/kids-in-cuffs-how-a-broken-juvenile-justice-system-is-failing-in-nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proceeding in Family Court<\/a>, cops and prosecutors said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rerd described Khayell as a \u201cquirky and goofy and funny\u201d kid who is \u201chappy all the time,\u201d likes playing Roblox, and has \u201ca great relationship\u201d with his 5-year-old autistic sister. I love him. That\u2019s my baby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut those other kids, other people\u2019s babies\u2026that\u2019s what they did, and now I almost lost my son, but they messed up their lives too,\u201d she added. \u201cSomebody else\u2019s mother got to [deal] with their child being incarcerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karerja Rerd talks to the NY Post oustide of her Brownsville, NY residence on December 19, 2025. You\u2019re supposed to go to VR and Nintendo and do fun stuff, and Christmas is coming up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not Roblox,\u201d she said of the youth violence. \u201cYou don\u2019t get to do over. You don\u2019t get an extra life. This is not Minecraft. You don\u2019t have 10,000 hearts and you can take it. No, it don\u2019t work like that. It don\u2019t work like that. This is real life. When things happen, they happen, and it\u2019s real, and it has real effect on you and the people around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The circumstances leading to the violence were still under investigation Friday.
