Shaping Schertz: New retail hub adding national favorites along I-35<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n In October, Panera Bread<\/a> opened as the first tenant at Schertz Station<\/a>, a 257,000-square-foot retail and dining hub that will feature a bevy of national chain restaurants and other shopping opportunities.<\/p>\n The big picture<\/strong><\/p>\n The property off I-35 North and Cibolo Valley Drive was developed by San Antonio-based Merit CRE, which is investing over $65 million in the hub.<\/p>\n Schertz\u2019s Economic Development Corp., or EDC, worked with Merit on Schertz Station\u2019s surrounding infrastructure, such as adjacent road construction, EDC Executive Director Scott Wayman said.<\/p>\n Read the full story by Reporter Thomas Leffler.<\/a><\/p>\n Locally owned Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery debuts in New Braunfels<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Wanting to spread Czech cuisine with Texas flair in Central Texas, Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery<\/a> Co-Owner Chase Katz said he had been eyeing expansion for the past couple of years.<\/p>\n Now, the San Marcos-based kolache bakery has opened its third overall location at 1164 FM 306 in New Braunfels.<\/p>\n \u201cThis will be your favorite local coffee shop,\u201d Katz said. \u201cThere\u2019s so much to love about being here in New Braunfels.\u201d<\/p>\n Read the full story by Reporter Andrew Creelman.<\/a><\/p>\n Northside ISD plans to close high school lunch periods as part of new safety measures<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n During its Nov. 11<\/a> meeting, the Northside ISD board of trustees received an update on the district\u2019s security, which listed a series of measures the district is taking to increase student safety, including closing high school campuses during lunch periods beginning in the 2026-27 school year.<\/p>\n What\u2019s happening?<\/strong><\/p>\n Presented by Jo Ann Fey, deputy superintendent for administration, the presentation included updates on door monitoring alarms, secure entries, high school lunches, school flasher lights, crossing guard staffing and hazardous route determination.<\/p>\n For campus entry points, Fey said all door monitoring alarm systems have been fully installed and are currently being programmed to meet specific campus needs.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery building has either a secure lobby\u2014all of our elementary schools have a secure lobby\u2014or at the campuses that do not have that, we have staff that\u2019s present at the entry, that\u2019s part of the bare minimum compliance from [Texas Education Agency].
