{"id":46030,"date":"2025-07-07T13:06:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T13:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/46030\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T13:06:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T13:06:09","slug":"nba-nixed-son-of-ace-baileys-manager-joining-jazz-as-guest-summer-league-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/46030\/","title":{"rendered":"NBA nixed son of Ace Bailey&#8217;s manager joining Jazz as guest summer league coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The son of Ace Bailey\u2019s manager won\u2019t get to be a guest coach for the Jazz\u2019s Summer League team after the NBA raised some concerns with the idea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Omar Cooper Jr. is the son of Ace Bailey\u2019s manager, Omar Cooper, and the Jazz had hired the younger Cooper to help ease the former Rutgers star\u2019s transition into the NBA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/45680758\/ace-bailey-impresses-jazz-8-points-summer-debut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN\u2019s Tim MacMahon reported<\/a>, but the league grew concerned about the idea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cooper Jr. had just finished his time at McNeese State and is planning on going into coaching, and the Jazz wanted him to work as an unpaid guest coach during the Salt Lake summer league.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.4862119;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36456273\" width=\"877\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/19-utah-jazz-pressured-vj-107691556.jpg\" alt=\"Three basketball players vying for the ball during an NBA Summer League game.\" class=\"wp-image-36456273\"  \/>Ace Bailey of the Utah Jazz is pressured by VJ Edgecombe #77 and Justin Edwards of the Philadelphia 76ers during the first half of their NBA Summer League game on July 5, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>However, a source told ESPN that the plan had been scrapped after the NBA had reached out to the team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bailey played in his first Summer League game on Saturday and finished with eight points as the Jazz defeated the 76ers 93-89. Utah has liked what it\u2019s seen in terms of Bailey\u2019s work ethic since he\u2019s arrived.\u00a0He also grabbed seven rebounds in the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s an NBA body and athlete. He\u2019s a great teammate too,\u201d Jazz coach Will Hardy told ESPN. \u201cI\u2019ve had nothing but positive reviews from all the coaches and his teammates this first week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Plenty had been made about Bailey and the Jazz after the team took him fifth overall in the NBA draft last month amid rumors that Utah was one of the teams he didn\u2019t want to play for.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/29\/sports\/ace-bailey-has-blunt-response-to-burning-jazz-loyalty-question\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bailey told reporters <\/a>during an introductory press conference late last month that he was \u201cblessed\u201d to be able to play for the Jazz and shot down the idea he wasn\u2019t going to play for them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, not at all. I mean, just blessed to be in this position.
