It\u2019s well-documented that Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors<\/a> aren\u2019t closing the door on a potential reunion with Klay Thompson.<\/p>\n

Thompson departed the Warriors in 2024 after a 13-year stint with the franchise that included four championships and five All-Star nods.<\/p>\n

Although the Washington State product\u2019s production with the Dallas Mavericks<\/a> has been far from stellar, his successful tenure with the Dubs in the prime of his career has made the possibility of a return come to life recently.<\/p>\n

In Bleacher Report\u2019s Eric Pincus\u2019 opinion, there\u2019s a historic eight-team trade<\/a> that could bring Thompson back to the Bay this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cReunite the Splash Brothers in Golden State,\u201d Pincus wrote Friday. \u201cSteph, we got you. “I wish he was still here,” Steph Curry told ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon, referring to Klay Thompson of the Dallas Mavericks.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile an eight-team trade is overkill, after the seven-teamer that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets<\/a>, why should eight be off the table? Consider this an excuse to tie in four teams looking to get out of the luxury tax while helping the Golden State Warriors resolve the Jonathan Kuminga saga.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile luxury taxes are nowhere near as sexy as reworking the Warriors, these are arguably the most likely deals to be made before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.”<\/p>\n

“Plugging in the Utah Jazz<\/a> as the Kuminga suitor, the Dallas Mavericks with Thompson, and the four looking to skirt the tax line (Orlando Magic<\/a>, Denver Nuggets<\/a>, Toronto Raptors<\/a>, and Phoenix Suns<\/a>), that’s seven teams in the deal with one to go. The final partner in this mess, the Brooklyn Nets<\/a>, boast cap room and the willingness to take on salary for a fee.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pinus is correct: an eight-team trade is overkill and frankly unrealistic. Surely, there\u2019s an easier way to acquire Thompson from the Mavericks before the Feb. 5 deadline, and if not, a reunion may not be meant to be.<\/p>\n

Assuming there is, though, the Warriors could take a significant step in the right direction. Although Thompson wouldn\u2019t help fix all of Golden State\u2019s current problems, his phenomenal track record as a three-point shooter and championship experience would make him an instant upgrade over Buddy Hield.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Thompson and Curry’s established on-court chemistry would help things run smoothly from a connectivity standpoint from the get-go.<\/p>\n

The 40.9% career long-range shooter is undoubtedly among the assets the Dubs will be monitoring on the trade market.<\/p>\n
