Only a limited number of lucky ramblers will\u00a0have the opportunity to set out on the\u00a0special New Year’s Day hike, as\u00a0day passes for the event are capped. The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department highly recommends reserving\u00a0passes in advance through its online system<\/a>.<\/p>\n You can preview the park’s layout using the\u00a0official trail map<\/a>\u00a0available online. Several of the Palo Pinto Mountains’\u00a0multi-use trails are open to mountain bikers and horseback riders. Since the park is newly developed, it has not yet made the list of the best hiking trails in America for wheelchair users<\/a>. That said, a few of its trails are accessible, including the\u00a00.2-mile lakeshore path that winds past the remnants of old cottages. The 1-mile Raptor Ridge Trail also offers an\u00a0easy, accessible jaunt\u00a0through the thickets.<\/p>\n A moderately challenging trek awaits on the hilly Tucker Lake Trail, a 4.5-mile route that\u00a0climbs hills and offers views of craggy\u00a0limestone cliffs\u00a0overlooking the\u00a0park’s loch, Tucker Lake, and the rustling waters of Russell Creek.\u00a0For a longer excursion, tackle the Texas & Pacific Trail stretches about 11 miles through canyon, prairie, and woodsy landscapes. As of this writing, the entrance fee is set at\u00a0$7 for adults, while children 12 and under are admitted free.\u00a0The state park\u00a0may still be a work in progress, but\u00a0much\u00a0is already complete, including the dock and ADA-accessible\u00a0kayak launch.<\/p>\n Tucker Lake is undoubtedly\u00a0the centerpiece of Palo Pinto Mountains State\u00a0Park. Visitors will be able to drift across the\u00a090 acres of serene waters in a non-motorized boat or paddle about in a canoe or kayak.
