HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Fireworks sales officially began Saturday in the Houston area as residents prepare for Christmas and New Year\u2019s celebrations.<\/p>\n

Top Dog Fireworks opened its 14 stores across Greater Houston at 10 a.m. Saturday, marking the start of the holiday sales period. The stores will remain open daily through Jan. 1, closing at 7 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n

Sue Davis, a representative for Top Dog Fireworks, said many customers tend to shop early to avoid missing popular items.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople come sometimes with their list. These are the ones we liked last time. We want all of these again,\u201d Davis said.<\/p>\n

The company noted that there are no restrictions on the types of fireworks sold during this period. However, Davis stressed the importance of following local laws and safety guidelines.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll local cities ban fireworks within their city limits,\u201d she said. \u201cYou have to be out in the county. But you can\u2019t be close to schools and daycare centers and hospitals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis also reminded consumers to read and follow label directions, keep fireworks away from vegetation and buildings and never attempt to relight fireworks that fail to ignite.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year we end up with fires because people put hot fireworks in the garbage can, stick it in the garage and close the door,\u201d she said. \u201cDouse your fireworks with water, put them in your garbage can but roll the can down the driveway or put it away from a building.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fireworks are a popular part of both the Christmas\/New Year\u2019s and July 4th celebrations in Texas, with sales and usage peaking during these times.<\/p>\n
