Feliz<\/a> is  taking a stand against absurd levels of sodium, targeting some of the Big Apple\u2019s most popular restaurants. <\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s demanding that chain restaurants include red-type warning signs for items containing \u201cexcessive\u201d sodium, in a recently <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/legistar.council.nyc.gov\/MeetingDetail.aspx?ID=1359429&amp;GUID=51C378CC-B7E4-4BAA-9463-8BA15132D7FC&amp;Options=&amp;Search=__;!!F0Stn7g!BUS20EO3e7_zN9wwADBmd-qyEaJ4RO64DdKGeFCQh94V-L--FnOjy8G6V-7c7WpiGVsRtuwcHW3--apFcCfH$\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">introduced bill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pura Vida\u2019s high sodium menu is the subject of a new City Council bill. Helayne Seidman<\/p>\n<p>The push comes as The Post revealed that Pura Vida Miami, the Florida-based food chain that has taken New York by storm, has been quietly fattening up its fashionista fanbase \u2014 one overpriced acai bowl at a time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverconsumption of sodium continues to be a major cause of health complications, including hypertension, kidney damage, and heart failure,\u201d Feliz said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chain restaurants are literally killing their customers \u2013 customers who do not realize how much sodium they are consuming.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bill would call on food service establishments to display a \u201cred and white equilateral triangle icon\u201d on menus and menu boards or tagged on any food item containing in excess of \u201c1,800 milligrams of sodium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It would also require a \u201cwarning statement\u201d displayed at the point of purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Pura Vida, which bills itself as a \u201cbeacon of health-conscious living,\u201d lists 10 menu items with a whopping 1,800 milligrams or more of sodium, according to its nutritional table <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/nutrition-food-labeling-and-critical-foods\/menu-labeling-requirements__;!!F0Stn7g!BUS20EO3e7_zN9wwADBmd-qyEaJ4RO64DdKGeFCQh94V-L--FnOjy8G6V-7c7WpiGVsRtuwcHW3--efyuj9l$\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the chain is required to post<\/a> per FDA ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverconsumption of sodium continues to be a major cause of health complications, including hypertension, kidney damage, and heart failure,\u201d Council Member Oswald Feliz said. New York City Council<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/5fc6985aec917750a3ff0c92\/t\/6914d5fa885db10738e1a468\/1762973178311\/PVM*Nutrition*Facts.xlsx*-*PV*MENU*REVISED-10.28.pdf__;KysrKysr!!F0Stn7g!BUS20EO3e7_zN9wwADBmd-qyEaJ4RO64DdKGeFCQh94V-L--FnOjy8G6V-7c7WpiGVsRtuwcHW3--ZE15NnZ$\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salt-busting favorites<\/a> include the $15 Perfect Egg Sandwich, which contains a mind-boggling 3,160 milligrams of sodium, and the $19 Tuna Sprout sandwich and $19 Kale Chicken Caesar wrap, which both sport 2,240 milligrams.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 milligrams a day of sodium \u2014 with a daily goal of 1,500.<\/p>\n<p>Pura Vida also violated city regulations \u201cby placing tables and chairs on an Upper East Side sidewalk without a permit\u201d from the Department of Transportation, <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/www.uppereastsite.com\/pura-vida-ues-outdoor-dining-no-permit\/__;!!F0Stn7g!BUS20EO3e7_zN9wwADBmd-qyEaJ4RO64DdKGeFCQh94V-L--FnOjy8G6V-7c7WpiGVsRtuwcHW3--X5mZZsx$\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to a recent Upper East Site report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pura Vida claims it has a healthy menu.
