{"id":46183,"date":"2025-07-07T14:31:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T14:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/46183\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T14:31:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T14:31:12","slug":"health-care-bill-that-carried-parts-of-rural-renaissance-package-falls-to-governors-veto-pen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/46183\/","title":{"rendered":"Health care bill that carried parts of &#8216;Rural Renaissance&#8217; package falls to Governor&#8217;s veto pen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Governor nixed legislation for imposing too many restrictions on workforce education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Legislation that included portions of Senate President <strong>Ben Albritton\u2019s<\/strong> \u201cRural Renaissance\u201d priorities couldn\u2019t make it past Gov. <strong>Ron DeSantis\u2019 <\/strong>desk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Governor vetoed a bill (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2025\/1427\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">HB 1427<\/a><\/strong>) that directed health care resources to nursing education programs. DeSantis in a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/flgov.com\/eog\/sites\/default\/files\/shared\/2025\/07\/Veto%20Letter_%20HB%201427.pdf\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">veto message<\/a><\/strong> said his problem was the level of bureaucracy that comes along with it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He wrote that the state has already made workforce investments in nursing with fewer strings attached.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTo meet the needs of the state\u2019s aging and growing population, Florida has made significant investments in healthcare workforce education including funding for new facilities, PIPELINE funding to reward the highest quality programs, and LINE funding to foster partnerships with local healthcare enterprises,\u201d DeSantis wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The legislation \u201cimpedes these investments by establishing unnecessary burdens on nursing education programs,\u201d the message reads.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shutts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-740415 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/FLPolitics-May-2025-728x90-1-scaled-e1748483753690.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe bill also institutes bureaucratic overreach by allowing the Board of Nursing to impose a host of additional regulations on nursing programs and their directors,\u201d DeSantis wrote. \u201cThese policies will deter programs from accepting students, encourage them to focus on test preparation rather than training students to work in healthcare, and will hinder the state\u2019s ability to recruit and maintain nursing programs and directors in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sen. <strong>Jason Brodeur<\/strong>, a Lake Mary Republican, previously carried a Senate companion bill (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2025\/1568\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">SB 1568<\/a><\/strong>) on allowing electronic prescriptions to passage in the Senate in April. But the legislation returned from the House after the lower chamber <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/734114-long-way-home-rural-renaissance-legislation-takes-multiple-tracks-in-house\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">opted to divide<\/a><\/strong> portions of the Rural Renaissance package, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/727115-rural-renaissance-bill-unanimously-passed-by-senate\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">passed as a single bill<\/a><\/strong> in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the end, most of the Rural Renaissance package was left for next year\u2019s Legislative Session. DeSantis ultimately did not care for the one bill that did come out of the Legislature.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFlorida is committed to accountability and to providing students with high-quality education,\u201d the Governor wrote. \u201cHowever, this bill will limit opportunities for students and those looking to make a career change and undermine the progress that has been made to bolster the state\u2019s nursing workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t Post Views: 0&#13;\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Governor nixed legislation for imposing too many restrictions on workforce education.
