\n\tA new Oasis<\/a> documentary about the recently-reformed rockers has landed guidance from the British ratings board that some quarters of the British press have slammed as \u201cwoke.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOasisdefinitely,\u201d directed by the former managing director of Oasis\u2019 label Creation Records Tim Abbott and timed to release in the U.K. with the launch of the band\u2019s sell-out tour (which kickstarted in Cardiff on Friday<\/a>), looks back over hundreds of hours of previously unseen archive footage. It was Abbott who in 1993 famously received a call from his Creation colleague Alan McGee who declared he had just found the next Beatles after hearing them play in Glasgow. They signed a few days later.<\/p>\n

\n\tAny documentary about the notoriously hell-raising Gallagher brothers would be expected to come with a little on-screen color, and that\u2019s exactly what the British Board of Film Classification has highlighted.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn its online guide, the BBFC \u2014\u00a0which has given the film a 15 rating \u2014\u00a0cites \u201cinfrequent very strong language\u201d (such as the word \u201cc**t\u201d) and \u201cfrequent use of strong language\u201d (including \u201cfuck\u201d) alongside the \u201cuse of rude gestures.\u201d There are also, it claims, \u201creferences made to cocaine and to \u2018getting high,’\u201d while \u201cpeople are smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOf course, for a band known \u2014\u00a0at least throughout the 1990s and early 2000s \u2014\u00a0for excessive swearing, drinking, smoking, a song literally called \u201cCigarettes and Alcohol\u201d and lyrics including \u201cWhere were you while we were getting high\u201d (from \u201cChampagne Supernova\u201d) it would be a shock if none of these elements had made it into the film. But in highlighting them, the BBFC has been accused of slapping \u201cOasisdefinitely\u201d with \u201cwoke trigger warnings\u201d by various British tabloid newspapers. <\/p>\n

\n\tFor the BBFC, however, it\u2019s merely part of its \u201cextended content advice\u201d for films \u2014\u00a0guidance that it\u2019s been doing since 2007 which it says it offers in order to give viewers more information when it comes to deciding what\u2019s right for themselves and their families to watch. <\/p>\n

\n\tBut it\u2019s not the first time the body has come under fire for offering such information. Last year, it sparked a minor fury \u2014\u00a0including from Piers Morgan \u2014\u00a0after a line in its guidance for \u201cWicked\u201d alerted viewers to the film\u2019s depiction of discrimination against a woman with green skin and the persecution of talking animals. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThrough our age ratings and content advice, the BBFC works to empower audiences to make informed viewing decisions. \u2018Oasisdefinitely\u2019 is rated 15 for very strong language,\u201d said a BBFC spokesperson in a statement to Variety.<\/p>\n
