The first of the two games was a contest on this date in the year 2000 that saw the Celtics play the New York Knicks on the road in Madison Square Garden in which their Atlantic Division foe did not miss a single free throw over the course of the whole game.

Of course, it helps when the opposing team only shoots a total of just 9 free throws throughout the course of the entire game, which was the case with the Knicks that night.

Unfortunately for the Knicks, it would not be enough to secure the win, with New York falling to Boston 92-86.

<img alt="Jan 21, 2011; Boston, MA, USA; Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward (20) drives the ball during the first half past Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce (34) the at the TD Garden. This game would have otherwise been unremarkable except for one highly unusual fact — the Celtics did not make a single 3-point shot at any point in the game. It wasn’t for lack of trying, though — Paul Pierce himself shot 5 of the 10 total Boston put up throughout the course of the game.

It was the first time since 1999 that such an unusual quirk had happened in a game, a 0-of-6 affair against the Atlanta Hawks, the fourth-longest streak in NBA history. “It’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully, it’s something we can build on,” said Pierce after the win via ESPN.

This article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Celtics history: Celtics beat Jazz without making a 3-pointer

Today in Boston Celtics history, two unusual Celtics tilts occurred — both within the last two decades of…

[40
3119,3125,1260,3122,48874,62,67,132,68,3132
0":"post-462028","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nba","8":"tag-atlanta-hawks","9":"tag-boston-celtics","10":"tag-nba","11":"tag-new-york-knicks","12":"tag-paul-pierce","13":"tag-sports","14":"tag-united-states","15":"tag-unitedstates","16":"tag-us","17":"tag-utah-jazz
["GET
