Aside from a handful of commission and board meetings, there wasn’t much in the way of public business conducted. But, of course, staff was busy working behind the scenes, so there’s at least a little something to put on your radar before Christmas time kicks into full gear.

Community Survey Preparations Begin

On Friday, the city’s chief financial officer briefed council members on preparations for the 2026 Community Survey. Every year, the questionnaire goes out to at least 2,100 residents across Dallas to get feedback on how the city is handling things like crime and homelessness and delivering services.

“Management recognizes the need for a standard mechanism to engage residents and to receive customer feedback that will allow the city to monitor long-term aggregated trends related to customer perceptions. The survey is conducted using high-quality survey methodologies and provides results that are statistically valid,” Jack Ireland wrote in a memo.

Draft questions for the survey were submitted for the city council’s feedback.

Survey design is expected to be completed by January 30, and it’ll go out to residents the following month. Results will be presented to the city council in June.

As previously reported by CandysDirt.com, last year’s survey respondents indicated improved satisfaction compared to 2024.

“Most residents gave positive ratings to Dallas as a place to do business, as a place to work, and as a place to live,” said Jason Morado, the vice president for community research for ETC Institute, the marketing research firm that has conducted the survey for the past several years.

ETC Institute is once again partnering with the city on the survey. Issues and services covered in the questionnaire include access to housing, sense of community, blighted buildings, public safety, neighborhood code enforcement, and trash pickup, among others.

Flight Deck Conference Center Shuttered

Planned renovations at Love Field Airport have apparently resulted in the permanent closure of the facility’s Flight Deck Conference Center this past Wednesday.

“The closure comes as plans move forward to renovate the space to better serve travelers and the community-at-large. More information will be available in the near future,” the airport said in a newsletter.

Located inside the terminal, the conference center offered meeting rooms and business amenities to travelers flying in and out of Love Field.

The airport is gearing up for a $2.3 billion expansion chock-full of upgrades, including concession and amenity additions.
