PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Be part of the magic as the Philadelphia Orchestra presents Disney’s “Fantasia in Concert.”<\/p>\n
“We’re going to show the film live and the orchestra will play along to the score,” says Ryan Fleur, CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts.<\/p>\n
It features excerpts from both the original movie and the 2000 sequel.<\/p>\n
The orchestra is going to recreate the experience of the films to celebrate their 125th anniversary.<\/p>\n
Aram Demirjian is guest conducting the 3-show limited-run in January.<\/p>\n
“You get to hear that rich, lush sound of the Philadelphia Orchestra that it is so known for,” says Jeremy Rothman, Chief Programming Officer for the Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts.<\/p>\n
Founded in 1900, the orchestra skyrocketed to world-famous status under the baton of its second music director, Leopold Stokowski.<\/p>\n
“Most famously known for shaking the hand of Mickey Mouse,” says Rothman.<\/p>\n
The orchestra partnered with Walt Disney for the 1940 release of “Fantasia,” performing in the original film.<\/p>\n
“When you listen to it, that is actually the Philadelphia Orchestra recorded at the Academy of Music,” says Fleur.<\/p>\n
Now, the orchestra is set to play Marian Anderson Hall for this re-creation.<\/p>\n
Rothman says they’ll be performing ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ as Mickey Mouse and the dancing brooms are projected above the orchestra for “a really special concert experience.”<\/p>\n
“We want our facilities to be a beacon for the arts,” says Fleur.<\/p>\n
“Our musicians pass along this tradition of performance from generation to generation,” says Rothman.<\/p>\n
Musical highlights include Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.<\/p>\n
“There’s nothing like a live performance,” says Fleur. “It can be very magical.”<\/p>\n
“You see it, you feel it, you hear it, and you get to experience it with your fellow Philadelphians in this beautiful concert hall,” says Rothman. “You won’t want to miss it.”<\/p>\n
