{"id":462874,"date":"2025-12-21T20:25:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T20:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/462874\/"},"modified":"2025-12-21T20:25:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T20:25:18","slug":"minnesotas-multibillion-dollar-welfare-scammers-surely-have-counterparts-in-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/462874\/","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota&#8217;s multibillion-dollar welfare scammers surely have counterparts in New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scammers have vacuumed billions out of Minnesota\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/16\/us-news\/hhs-probes-whether-billions-in-taxpayer-money-used-to-fuel-illegal-and-mass-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lavish human-services spending<\/a>, and New York social programs are likely suffering much the same.<\/p>\n<p>Federal indictments in the North Star State reveal a welfare system  picked over as by carpet beetles on a carcass.<\/p>\n<p>The now-infamous <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/23\/opinion\/state-sponsored-terror-fraud-schemes-sent-minn-tax-dollars-to-somali-qaeda-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cFeeding Our Future\u201d fraud<\/a> that hijacked $250 million in pandemic-relief funds is only the leading edge of what Acting US Attorney Joseph Thompson calls a \u201csystematic and wholesale attack on our state government programs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/billions-paid-out-by-medicaid-in-minnesota-may-be-fraudulent-us-attorney\/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&amp;linkId=890605016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fraudsters established bogus \u201ccommunity based\u201d outfits<\/a>  that billed the state for \u201chousing stabilization services\u201d they never provided. As the fake invoices piled up, the state just kept cutting checks, even as the sums grew to 40 times the anticipated costs.<\/p>\n<p>Scammers who often had zero connection to Minnesota targeted programs to assist autistic children and the disable, treat addiction, offer child-care services and more.<\/p>\n<p>Yet because the scammers largely hailed from the Somali immigrant community, whose voters are vital to Democratic power, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/01\/us-news\/minn-social-service-workers-slam-gov-tim-walz-as-100-responsible-for-1b-state-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local and state officials like Gov. Tim Walz <\/a>either turned a blind eye to the deeds of their criminal constituencies or facilitated them.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n<p>While still in Congress, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/113th-congress\/house-bill\/4386\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison <\/a>championed the 2014 Money Remittances Improvement Act, which pushed the US Treasury Department to rely on weak state-level compliance rules on international money transfers by \u201cnonbank\u201d financial institutions \u2014 empowering Somalian criminals to siphon the stolen welfare funds to Mogadishu, with thumbs-up from Minnesota\u2019s compromised regulators.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota became such \u201ca magnet for fraud\u201d that it \u201cdeveloped a fraud-tourism industry \u2014 people coming to our state purely to exploit and defraud its programs,\u201d thunders Thompson, the federal prosecutor who just charged Philadelphia-based Anthony Waddel Jefferson and Lester Brown with siphoning millions from Minnesota Medicaid programs meant to help addicts and the disabled.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our columnists\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>New York\u2019s $116 billion a year in Medicaid outlays present an even richer target than Minnesota\u2019s welfare programs, yet the Empire State\u2019s anti-fraud efforts are a joke. <\/p>\n<p>Notably, Gov.
