{"id":463064,"date":"2025-12-21T22:31:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T22:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/463064\/"},"modified":"2025-12-21T22:31:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T22:31:10","slug":"super-flu-hitting-these-states-the-hardest-what-are-the-symptoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/463064\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Super flu\u2019 hitting these states the hardest: What are the symptoms?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2Q2TI6JVH5ACHG37SJDAPF6PDE\">Cases of the flu are rising across the country with some states getting hit harder than others. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RATUMWZYPJD6VKDVR75KPB2E2M\">The nationwide hospitalization rate jumped by 14.3% with over 9,900 people admitted with the flu, according to data released on Friday by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/fluview\/surveillance\/2025-week-50.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/fluview\/surveillance\/2025-week-50.html\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RU2HQGF265FX7EKJN5ZUNY37P4\">Two influenza-associated pediatric deaths during the 2025-2026 season were reported this week, bringing the seasonal total to three reported flu-related pediatric deaths. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"D25SCHJXDNAUXIC64OH7FZESRQ\">Influenza A (H3N2) viruses were the most frequently reported influenza virus so far this season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KRMMZZT4R5AX7IH5T2DZX2SBOY\">The flu is spreading especially high in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Louisiana and Colorado, according to health officials. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZWKYERKR5FCZNAA6QIWHVSUBCA\">Georgia, New Mexico, Idaho, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland and Washington, D.C. have elevated hospital visits for flu symptoms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KGWLYOBTVNGVBGTGXFD3DO5QVU\">Dr. Andrew Pekosz, an infectious disease specialist with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said that the \u201csuper flu\u201d strain, or subclade K, is spreading everywhere influenza is, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/nexstar_media_wire\/5654642-super-flu-subclade-k-variant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/nexstar_media_wire\/5654642-super-flu-subclade-k-variant\/\">The Hill.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NFYTNSPYWBEGBDLQES73HJFB7M\">The new variant emerged over the summer and spread rapidly in several countries such as Japan, the United Kingdom and Canada. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DLPY6U2TNBDIJCIIXFAZWPMVHE\">The new subclade K strain is a mutation of the H3N2 strain of influenza A, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/disease-outbreak-news\/item\/2025-DON586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/disease-outbreak-news\/item\/2025-DON586\">World Health Organization.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZXQKEDQZ2ZE6BLOFEJAEXTLSDQ\">Symptoms for influenza A and its subclade K variant are similar, and both are typically more serious than influenza B. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"B45M3N5ULRDDVG6MJUB4O7RNOA\">They include fever, cough, sore throat, congestion, body aches, headaches, fatigue and occasionally vomiting or diarrhea, according to the CDC. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Cases of the flu are rising across the country with some states getting hit harder than others.
