A man has been charged after seven people were injured when a car crashed into a pub on the New South Wales central tablelands.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to the Royal Hotel Capertee, north of Lithgow, about 5:20pm on Sunday after a vehicle smashed into a concrete pole before hitting several patrons in the courtyard.<\/p>\n
A 64-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman were treated at the scene for serious injuries before being flown to hospital.<\/p>\n
Another female patron was treated for minor injuries before also being taken to hospital, while another four patrons were treated by paramedics at the scene.<\/p>\n
The 30-year-old driver was not injured and has been charged with negligent driving and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.<\/p>\n
His licence was suspended, and he was refused bail to appear before court on Monday.<\/p>\n
Notorious road<\/p>\n
It is the second time in the past two years that a car has crashed into the Royal Hotel Capertee pub.<\/p>\n
The president of the Capertee and District Progress Association, Graeme Pike, said the adjacent road was “notorious” for being dangerous.<\/p>\n
“Capertee is a small bit of road between the long bit of the Castlereagh Highway. People \u2026 either don’t see the speed signs or don’t care,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This is the second accident for the Capertee pub \u2026 where someone has missed the bend and gone straight through.<\/p>\n
“It is a bad part of the road.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Mr Pike has called for safety improvements to be made.<\/p>\n
