Asia-Pacific markets climbed Monday as investors look toward\u00a0benchmark lending rate decisions coming out of China later in the day. <\/p>\n
The one-year rate influences most new and outstanding loans, while the five-year benchmark affects mortgages.<\/p>\n
Australia’s\u00a0S&P\/ASX 200<\/a> rose 0.54% in early trade.<\/p>\n Japan’s Nikkei 225<\/a> rose 1.58%, while the Topix was 0.86% higher. The Bank of Japan raised its policy rate by 25 basis points to 0.75% \u2014a three-decade high\u2014 last Friday. <\/p>\n South Korea’s Kospi jumped 1.83% and the small-cap Kosdaq rose 0.99%. <\/p>\n Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index<\/a> futures were at 25,843, higher than the HSI’s last close of 25,690.53. <\/p>\n Last Friday in the U.S., stocks rose for a second winning day, boosted by\u00a0Oracle<\/a>, as the artificial intelligence trade regained its footing after experiencing volatility.<\/p>\n Oracle shares were up 6.6% after TikTok\u00a0agreed to sell<\/a>\u00a0its U.S. operations to a new joint venture that includes the software giant and private equity investor Silver Lake.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0rose 1.31%, closing at 23,307.62. The\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0added 0.88% to close at 6,834.50.
