{"id":464976,"date":"2025-12-22T19:19:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T19:19:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/464976\/"},"modified":"2025-12-22T19:19:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T19:19:13","slug":"barry-manilow-reveals-lung-cancer-diagnosis-postpones-january-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/464976\/","title":{"rendered":"Barry Manilow reveals lung cancer diagnosis, postpones January shows"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/la-et-barry-manilow-fta-20170405-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barry Manilow<\/a> has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will be postponing his January concerts. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very sorry that you have to change your plans,\u201d the \u201cMandy\u201d singer wrote in a statement posted to <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DSkevRHFPfU\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> Monday revealing his diagnosis. According to <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2019-09-08\/barry-manilow-hollywood-bowl-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manilow<\/a>, his doctors had discovered \u201ca cancerous spot\u201d on his left lung that he will have surgically removed. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks,\u201d Manilow wrote in the statement. \u201cEven though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cCopacabana (At the Copa)\u201d singer said it was \u201cpure luck\u201d that the cancer was found so early and that his doctors \u201cdo not believe it has spread.\u201d He added that he is taking additional tests to confirm that diagnosis. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c[N]ow that the Christmas A Gift of Love concerts are over I\u2019m going into surgery to have the spot removed,\u201d Manilow continued in his statement. \u201cSo that\u2019s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The January arena concerts have been rescheduled because recovery from the surgery will take a month, said the 82-year old singer, whose hits also include \u201cCould It Be Magic,\u201d \u201cI Write the Songs\u201d and \u201cWeekend in New England.\u201d . The new dates, starting in late February and continuing through April, were included in the Instagram post.
