PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Whether it’s an ornament at the bottom of the box, or a nutcracker collecting dust in the attic, hand-me-down decorations can find a new home thanks to one local high school student and his mom.<\/p>\n

Grant Benedum and his mom, Christine, created a mission called, ‘Giving Garland,’ earlier this year.<\/p>\n

They have partnered with Norwood-Fontbonne Academy<\/a> and Our Mother of Consolation Catholic Church<\/a> in Chestnut Hill to collect decorations from students, parishioners, and their families.<\/p>\n

The result has been a roaring success so far. And they were already able to make a donation to ‘Women Against Abuse’<\/a> for a shelter in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

The family, who is from Glenside, will continue to accept donations through the end of January 2026.<\/p>\n

Each plush is made for a hospital patient and hand-crocheted by Rachael Mahoney, an employee of the Lehigh Valley Health Network.<\/p>\n
