Liverpool have confirmed that striker Alexander Isak underwent surgery today on the fractured leg he suffered in Saturday\u2019s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n

There is no set timescale for his recovery but he\u2019s expected to be sidelined for a few months.<\/p>\n

The Athletic reported on Sunday<\/a> that Liverpool feared Isak had sustained a suspected broken leg in the win at Spurs.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was injured in the act of opening the scoring with a smart finish, 11 minutes after his introduction at the interval. Having finished smartly from Florian Wirtz\u2019s pass, Isak was brought down awkwardly by a sliding challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven and unable to celebrate with his teammates.<\/p>\n

Results of an MRI scan the following day confirmed that he had sustained a broken leg and he had surgery on the injury on Monday.<\/p>\n

Liverpool said in a statement<\/a> that \u201can operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.\u201d The Sweden international will begin his rehabilitation at the club\u2019s Kirkby training centre.<\/p>\n

Isak\u2019s absence is a huge blow to both Liverpool and the \u00a3125million signing, who scored for only the second time in the Premier League in north London since his record-breaking move from Newcastle United in the summer.<\/p>\n
