President Trump\u2019s border czar, Tom Homan<\/a>, brushed aside socialist New York City mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani\u2019s<\/a> commitment to defying Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if he wins the election in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood luck on that,\u201d Homan told reporters at the White House Monday. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to be in New York City, and President Trump said it two weeks ago, we\u2019re going to double down, triple down on sanctuary cities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy? Not because [they\u2019re a] blue city or blue state, because we know that\u2019s where the problem is,\u201d he went on. \u201cThey\u2019re releasing public safety threats and national security threats to the streets every day because they don\u2019t honor our [requests they be] detained.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mamdani, who won the Democratic primary last month<\/a> in an upset over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has called ICE a \u201crogue agency<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to stand up and fight back,\u201d Mamdani told NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d June 29. \u201cWe saw ICE agents arrest a migrant at Federal Plaza, and then we saw NYPD officers arresting a pastor who was peacefully observing that arrest<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThose days are going to come to an end when I\u2019m the mayor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Trump threatened to arrest Mamdani if he attempted to block ICE operations.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Trump\u2019s] statements don\u2019t just represent an attack on our democracy but an attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: If you speak up, they will come for you,\u201d Mamdani shot back. \u201cWe will not accept this intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams has been cooperative with the Trump administration on key immigration issues, something Mamdani has used against Hizzoner.<\/p>\n

But Homan warned Monday that ICE will persevere no matter who is in Gracie Mansion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve said it before, we\u2019ll flood the zone with sanctuary cities. If they don\u2019t let us arrest a bad guy in the county jail, they\u2019re going to arrest them in the community, we\u2019re going to arrest them at a work site,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019re going to increase community operations, we\u2019re going to increase work enforcement operations. We\u2019re going to get the bad guys, so if they don\u2019t want to help, get out of the way, we\u2019re coming to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
